I haven't posted since January 1st apparently. AHH! So much for keeping up with this blog, eh?
Anyway, tonight I did a bit of beauty shopping and I wanted to share my purchases because I got some really great stuff.
So, here we go: Target beauty haul!
First off: 9 nail polishes! Don't worry, I didn't go spending almost $100 on nail polish at one time, haha. They were all cheap ones, not OPI or Essie!
ELF Summer Ready set, featuring a mint green, lilac, coral-orange, fuchsia and purple.
Sinful Colors in "Pull Over," "Rise and Shine" and "Easy Going"
(I couldn't find a picture of Pull Over ANYWHERE so this yellow is the closest I could find. It's just a bright, school bus yellow haha)
NYC in "Wall Street"
Lip Liners:
Rimmel (one of my favorite drug store brands) has these neat twist up lip liners that I decided to try. I bought two shades: Obsession and East End Snob.
Eyeliner:
NYC Dark Brown. I've been looking for a brown eyeliner. I usually stick to black, but I wanted to get a brown one for my more natural makeup looks, which I have been really into lately. I'm all about the neutral eyes and bold lips right now.
I'm not sure if I like this yet. It seems a bit hard... I prefer softer and smoother eye pencils. But I haven't used it yet, so we'll see!
I've run out of Philosophy and don't want to spend so much for a cleanser, so I got a new one to try: Ambi Skincare Even and Clear Foaming Cleanser
I also got an anti-frizz product to try. Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Smoothing Cream.
I haven't tried either the face wash or the smoothing cream yet, but I'm very excited about them! I'll be trying both tomorrow morning so I'll let you all know how they work out.
I also got this super cute buffer block:
More nail polish remover:
Hot cheetos:
And Brussels cookies! (Hey, I'm on spring break, junk food is allowed when you stay in Michigan for spring break! haha)
I may post more pictures/swatches of these later if I have the time. All of these photos aside from the ELF kit were found via google images, so credit to the photographer! I especially want to take better, individual pictures of the ELF polishes because they're gorgeous shades.
Disclaimer: I bought all of these products myself, all opinions are my own. I'm pretty sure the ELF/Rimmel/NYC people have no clue who I am and would never send me free things, but I'm putting this here anyway in the even that I somehow magically acquire a ton of followers.
xx,
Lindsey

Winter '11 Semester
Only four days left of Winter break. Wednesday marks the beginning of the Winter '11 semester. My boss finally sent me my work study schedule, so now that everything's all set I'm a little bit less nervous. I am still very anxious to meet all of my new professors though. I'm pretty good at choosing classes I'll like, but I always get extreme pre-semester jitters on the days leading up to the end of break.
My schedule looks like this:
MONDAY/WEDNESDAY -
My schedule looks like this:
MONDAY/WEDNESDAY -
Narrative Journalism: 1:05 to 2:20
Intro to Screen Studies: 3 to 4:15
Work Study in the lab: 5 to 9
TUESDAY/THURSDAY -
Colonial Literature: 11:30 to 12:45
The 1960's in America: 1:05 to 2:20
Intro to Communication Design (TUESDAY ONLY): 6:10 to 9
I've got Friday - Sunday off from both work and class, so it'll be nice to have that time to relax and catch up on any work that I didn't get finished during the week. I didn't get the Social Psych class that I wanted, but I'm still pretty happy with my schedule. I'm really excited for the 1960's class, it's with one of my favorite Profs!
Hope you all had a great holiday/winter break and NYE. Happy 2011!

Things I Love pt. 1
I'm sitting here snuggling with my dog on a snowy Wednesday afternoon. It's my first day of winter break. No class until January 5! I am so ready to catch up on much needed sleep (I slept in until 11:30 today and it felt amazing) and relax. Anyway, my pup and I sit here, we're listening to some music on my laptop and one of my favorite songs came on, prompting a new blog series that I'll be starting: THINGS I LOVE. So here it is.
Things I Love: Musician: Jarrod Gorbel
I became a fan of Jarrod's band, The Honorary Title, when I was a freshman in high school. I randomly stumbled across one of their albums at a local record store and immediately fell in love. They became one of my favorite bands, and I was pretty upset when I found out they weren't going to exist as a band anymore. Luckily, the disappointment didn't last because Jarrod released some solo jams - and EP, titled Ten Years Older and later a full-length titled Devil's Made a New Friend. The previously mentioned song that my pup and I have been enjoying is "I'll Do Better" from Devil's.
Here's a fantastic video of Jarrod performing the song, for your enjoyment.
PS - This blog was quite difficult to write, because Lil' Wiz felt that it was necessary to attack me with kisses ("I've been kissed by a dog!") and then lay his head on the keyboard. At one point he typed a long string of the letter "s" repeated over and over. Either he loves me today or he's jealous of my laptop... possibly both.

As promised, a shopping post!
Note: If your name is Molly and you are my dear "wife," or if your name is Brittney and you are my sister, please close this page now! Unless you want your holiday gifts spoiled. :P
As I promised yesterday, here are the things that I've bought recently! I've finished buying all of my textbooks for next semester and had a bit of money left over since I was able to get really good prices on them, so I hit up the H&M sale that's going on right now. So a lot of this stuff will be from that sale! Some of the pictures aren't great. There's no space to lay things out nicely in my room, haha.
1. Shoes - Dolce Vita for Target - on sale for $10 or $15 (I can't remember the exact price!)
2. Yellow Scarf - Target - on sale for $7
3. Grey shirt with 1/2 length, buttoned sleeves, $10; Light pink silk-ish top with lace detail, $15; Both from H&M
4. H&M Striped open cardigan sweaters in Blue/Black and Brown/Black. I bought the blue one on Saturday and loved it so much that I went back for the brown version today! $10 each.
5. Long, Grey Cardigan, $10; Red scarf that's twice as tall as I am aka the new love of my life, $7; Both H&M
Christmas gifts for Molly and Brittney!
Molly - Blue version of the red scarf that I bought for myself, two mix CDs (I give her mixes for every holiday, haha), Hello Kitty watch, various HK stocking stuffer type gifts, a really great card, and two heart shaped wall hangings that my mom made. Chair and green coat not included. :P
Brittney - Moviegoer's journal book, Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails book, Newlyweds on DVD, and an "alcohol breath checker" as a joke (she just turned 21 in October!)
I may end up going back to H&M yet again to get my sister one of the scarves like I got for myself & Molly -- she's been green with envy seeing me wear it the past couple of days, haha. I can't blame her, it is a fantastic scarf. So cozy!
What are you giving your best friends/siblings for Christmas?

I want a dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown.
We just got done watching "I want a dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown" and a quote by Lucy stuck out to me. She calls Rerun's newfound puppy friend "part beagle, part disaster." There could not be a more perfect description of my dog, Wiz!
We got him in Fall '09, around the time that I started college. He was just a baby at the time, only about five months old. He's the love of my life, but he is, as Lucy would say, "part disaster." Lately his rebellion of choice is hopping up on the dining room table and stealing baked goods. He also loves to sneak downstairs and steal socks from the laundry. Most of the time, he's a perfect pup, content with cuddling and sleeping all day. But of course, he's also got a crazy side. If he is "part disaster," he's the best kind of disaster I've ever encountered!
You followers will probably be seeing a lot of his adorable little face. He's very photogenic and I take pictures of him as often as possible!
(PS - I'll probably update with a shopping post tomorrow. Given the fact that I haven't posted a fashion blog since October, I've got quite a few great buys to share! Including Christmas gifts for my best friend. Hopefully she doesn't read this blog, so I can post them without spoiling anything. :P)

I'm so bad at blogging.
I've decided to treat this blog as more of a general blog than a fashion blog, because apparently I neglect it otherwise!
Tuesday is my last final and my last day of workstudy until next semester, so that's exciting. Very excited for a new year and catching up on sleep. I'm close to reaching my "365 movies in 365 days" days goal, and with the upcoming between-semesters-free-time, I'll definitely meet it. Current count: 360. So close. Oddly enough, I didn't being keeping track with the intent to watch so many movies; I was just curious to see how many I usually watch in a year. I didn't change my watching habits at all, or try to watch a movie every single day or anything like that. I guess I'm just a film fiend.
Today I wandered around Detroit taking photos. I'm working on editing them right now. So far so good. It's been a while since I shot in the city (or shot at all, for that matter. This is the first time I've used my camera in December -- very unlike me)! I would post one for you all, but photoshop just froze on me and I haven't saved any of the edits yet. Convenient, eh?
I guess I'll quit rambling and let you folks move on with your lives now. :P
Until next time,
-Lindsey

Beauty Rants and Fashion Raves
I'll start with the positive: I have a new obsession!
I went on a mini-shopping trip to the mall on Monday. I only bought one sweater and one necklace (see pictures below), but we're going back on Friday because I don't get paid until tomorrow. :P
Anyway, here's my obession:
This AMAZING blue & white (It may look purple in the picture depending on your monitor, but it looks blue in person) striped sweater, $14.95 at H&M. I am in love with it. The neck is wide enough to wear either normally or one-shoulder, it's a bit long (I hate short shirts, especially sweaters), and it's warm but not so warm that I feel like I'm roasting if I wear it in a building with that has the heat on. I'm not sure if it's just because it's new or if I genuinely like it better than everything else, but it is definitely my favorite shirt right now. Best purchase I've made in a while, and the price isn't bad either!
Here's the necklace I bought:
A little gold Bambi from F21. I only had $4-ish left after buying the sweater (I'd only brought $20 with me, because I mainly wanted to window shop in preparation for pay day :P), so I was looking for something really cheap. This piece was only $3.80 and I thought it was super cute. The little spots on the body of the deer are heart shaped. And you can never have too many necklaces!
Now, on to the negative... a beauty rant, on TRESemme's new Fresh Start Dry Shampoo.
My sister bought a can of it to try out, because her hair is dyed red and as anyone who has had red hair knows, it fades FAST, so she's trying to keep the shampoos to a minimum. I'd never tried dry shampoo before, but I decided to try it the other morning before work. I'd had a great hair day on Monday, and the only part of my hair that looks awful on day 2 is my bangs, so I figured I'd toss some of this on and be good to go for another great hair day. I was sorely disappointed! I followed the instructions (both from the bottle and from my sister, who has more experience with it than I do), but it did nothing at all for my bangs. It gave my roots all over a nice lift, but the bangs still looked greasy, and it made them much more piecey than usual. I ended up just braiding them and pinning them back Lauren Conrad style.
Have you had any experiences with dry shampoo? There is a chance that I did just somehow use it wrong, so I'm willing to try it again... share your tips with me!
:)
I'll be back on Friday or Saturday with a new "recent purchase" post... going on a major (I say that now, but will probably only end up buying a few things :P) H&M trip after class on Friday!
